How does technology and Social Media become harmful or helpful? When certain groups of people or singular individuals get their fingers into the world wide web. We can first think about how social media is used casually. Like grandma posting a picture of her grandson or a father posting pictures of his daughter graduating high school, or even cousin Kevin getting his fifth dog. Nothing really hostile or groundbreaking right?

Now when we look at the positive effects of social media, its quite amazing what can be achieved online. Social media allows individuals to connect with others that are over great distances, or meeting a possible soul mate over a few chat rooms and date arrangements. Social Media also allows artists to gain a community through sharing art, tips, and even some issues on certain types of other artists works. This can also translate over to possible work opportunities, such as posting events, reminding employee's trough emails, or promoting business through social media adds. Education can also be helped through social media, such as online courses and online tutorials.

Then we can turn to the negative side of Social Media. Social Media can take a very, very dark turn when you look at the right places. For example, cyberbullying is quite common, which is very sad when you see how horrid some of it gets. These can be embarrassing comments, negative publicity, posting very embarrassing sexual content, spreading rumors, and Doxing. For those who don't know doxing is where someone shares another's address after spreading hurtful and harmful rumors which could lead some to do physical harm to the victim. Then lets get a bit darker... lets talk about child exploitation. Children can be easily coerced into inappropriate conversations and especially near puberty, "sexting" becomes a possible threat, with some twisted individuals wanting to see these minors naked and in "compromising" situations. Then addiction turns its ugly head. Simply said social media is basically a drug, as it is designed to keep someone's brain active and happy, keeping the phone in their hand or their fingers glued to a keyboard.

However as of late, research and development in unmanned vehicles such as drones can assist first responders in hard to get places and talking to people stuck in these situations. This makes the job safer for first responders who could possibly get harmed and stranded in the situation as well. These drones can also be used together to survey large masses of area for searching for lost persons or recording forest fires.
