For the crime I chose for this weeks blog, was Vehicle Theft, also known as Grand Theft Auto. The first variable we look at is our starting number of vehicle thefts in the year 2021. In the United States there had been 49,276 reported by the local population, then there were around 5,715 United State Clearance cases that were filed. Then 72.73% of cases were covered by population coverage. These numbers then spiked over the years and reached its maximum in the year 2024.

In the year of 2024, there were 87,528 cases reported by the population, reaching an increase of about 77.63% over the last three years. Then in the year of 2024 there were 7,701 cases that were then put through clearance, taking a 34.75 hike. Finally in the year of 2024, the number of United States percentage of population coverage took an increase to 91.37%, meaning it had gone up 18.64%.

The ages of the victims and offenders vary, ranging from 0-90, the most common age being around 30-39 for both offenders and victims alike. The offenders were numbered at around 384,907, while the victims were numbered at 502,858. When it comes to the sex of offender and victim, most offenders are usually undefined, then the majority of the victims were male. When it comes to race, white people are the majority of reported car theft victims while most offenders are left undefined.

When it comes to arrests, the most common sex arrested is male, coming in at 78.82%, meaning that only 21.18% are female. The most common age for both male and female offenders are varied but both have the most common ages ranging from 25-34, with each having two categories that are so close in number. Then when it comes down to race, the most common race to be reported is white offenders, coming in at 118,892 being reported, that equates to 69.82% of arrests.

Two men were charged with interstate grand theft auto, Jones and Pappas and others had conspired to obtain stolen vehicles from car dealerships, rentals and other sources in the state of Georgia, Illinois or anywhere to move to Connecticut. They modified the vehicles VIN number of the stolen vehicles to hide their status as stolen vehicles. They also made false bills and titles to try and make the movement of these stollen goods easier to push across the state border. Pappas was later charged with conspiracy to grand larceny, with evidence with other co-conspirators via phone contact.
