Title: As cities enact camping bans, where will California’s unhoused population go?

Argument: With cities banning homeless camps, the homeless population suffers due to extreme weather conditions.

                                                               Article Summary

The article starts off with mentioning how Gov. Gavin Newsome had issued a ban on homeless camps and how the order was made to clear encampments near official state property. The author then continues to mention how Gov. Newsome had withdrawn the funding of homeless localities. This was then supported by a supreme court ruling that sleeping or camping outside can be criminalized and then become a punishable offense.

This then brings the author to mention that this is not meant to be a solution but to instead to be a notion to say that they did something about homelessness just for good voting clout. This then mentions how certain places that were most common for the homeless; sidewalks, parks, foodbanks, riversides, and alleyways. The author also mentions that California has the highest homeless population, which far exceeds their housing capabilities at shelters. This ban would then transfer a large part of the homeless population, into a vas criminal population, instead of people at their lowest, they are now considered criminals.

                                                           My Personal Reaction

When I read the article, I honestly wasn't too surprised by the act done by the governor, and my reason why I say this, is because those in power, usually don't put much thought or heart into those who are less fortunate and at rock bottom. I also liked how the author mentioned how there was no real thought to the issue, aside from "crap, its voting season and I did nothing about the man digging trash outside."

Putting further thought to the article, I felt that while yes the article was supposed to be focused on a single subject, it felt as if they stretched the topic and what could be just a few sentences into three or four paragraphs(cough cough). I also saw in the article that they gave us a slice of life about how the homeless in a community, in a sense form a pseudo family structure, looking after one another in this thick struggle.
